With my two Associates of Applied Science Degrees (one in web design and one in web development) from Cloud County Community College, my dog, and all the worldly possessions I owned stuffed into my Ford Contour—I left my sleepy hometown in Kansas behind.

I was bound for Arizona State University to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design hoping my luck with full-ride academic scholarships for college would continue when I transferred to Arizona State University.

I was all unpacked in Tempe, Arizona by the time I received my ASU award letter for $35k worth of student loans—rather than a full-ride academic scholarship I was hoping for. Realizing that the starting salary for an entry level graphic designer or web developer wasn’t enough to cover that kind of student loan debt—I decided to try my hand at “just going into the job market” to see where that would take me.

A few weeks, several demoralizing student portfolio reviews, and one actual interview later—I was gainfully employed as a Jr. Project Coordinator for ~$19k a year.

By 2010—I had a very persistent nagging feeling that what I was doing day in and day out really wasn’t make the world a truly better place at the end of the day. And as a marketer—my sole job is to exponentially increase the spread and support for the causes, ideas, products, and services I work on the behalf of. Therefore, I felt (and still feel) that it is my ethical responsibly as a marketer to only work with marketing clients that I believe truly do make the world a better place.

I wanted to help smaller, local do-good companies and nonprofit organizations get their message out to the public in a way that would really capture some of attention in an effort to spread their great work. I saw so many worthy causes, ideas, products, or services go unnoticed—simply because they didn’t look “professional”.

So in March 2010, I kicked off Made Better Studio 2.0 full-time to help non-profits and do-good businesses with all the marketing know-how I had racked up while working with large brands in Phoenix marketing companies.

Rather than simply sitting on my experienced marketing laurels, happily content in providing one-on-one marketing consultation services for non-profit & do-good businesses in need of marketing, search engine optimization, or online communication channel setup—I’m, of course, trying to do more.

Currently, I’m transitioning the focus of Made Better Studio to provide a new breed of online marketing courses, in hopes to provide marketing help to an even larger audience of non-profit marketing volunteers and do-good business owners. These expert-led, online marketing courses will walk each participant through a guided step-by-step process with expert marketing support every step of the way.

I believe that I can help even more great work get found through these expert-led online marketing courses, by providing a new kind of guided step-by-step marketing support service for non-profits and do-good businesses looking for a proven methodology to achieve the best marketing results for their specific goals and audiences.
